Why Pool Checker exists
Pool chemistry shouldn't require a science degree. But if you've ever stood in the pool aisle staring at ten bottles of chemicals, wondering which one you actually need and how much to add, you know the feeling. Most pool owners either overshoot with chemicals (wasting money), undershoot (risking algae and unsafe water), or just give up and call a pro for something they could easily handle themselves.

How we're different
Most pool sites are either trying to sell you chemicals or gate their calculators behind an app download. We don't do either. Our calculators run entirely in your browser — no data leaves your device unless you choose to connect with a pro. We don't collect your pool readings, we don't require email addresses to see results, and we don't push products you don't need.
When we do recommend products (like test kits or equipment), we're transparent about affiliate relationships. We only suggest products we'd actually use on our own pools. Our revenue comes from our professional contractor network and occasional affiliate partnerships — never from selling your data or hiding results behind a paywall.
Accuracy matters
Our chemical calculations are based on industry-standard formulas used by certified pool operators. The SLAM (Shock Level And Maintain) targets in our shock calculator follow the same CYA-to-chlorine ratios that professional pool services use. Our dosage calculator accounts for your pool's exact volume and current chemistry — not generic "add one bag per 10,000 gallons" advice.
That said, every pool is unique. Our tools provide precise starting points, but factors like sunlight exposure, bather load, and local water chemistry can affect results.
