SubjectYour pool service price increase, starting March 1
Hi Pat,
Thank you for trusting Main Street Pool Service with your pool.
Starting March 1, your monthly pool service price goes up from $160 to $175.
Chemicals, parts and insurance all cost more than they did a year ago.
Nothing else changes: same service day, same care for your pool.
Your service carries on at the new price. If you'd like to stop instead, just tell me before March 1.

What every price increase letter needs
- Old and new monthly price, and the start date, up front.
- One line on why: costs that last, like chemicals, parts and insurance, not gas.
- What isn't changing.
- How to reach you, and how to stop service if your agreement or state requires it.
- "Price increase", not "adjustment", and no apology, SCORE advises.
How much and when
How much to raise pool service prices
The average raise among pros who raised prices, in 2024 and again in 2025 (Service Industry News).
Rise in consumer prices in the 12 months to August 2026 (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Pool Scouts emailed its increases in January, February and April (PoolPro, 2021).
Small yearly raises beat waiting years for a big one, CPO trainer Rudy Stankowitz advises. Seasonal companies can put it in next season's agreement. Start the new price on the first day of a billing month.
Or keep the price and bill chemicals on top: a Scottsdale owner did that on 54 accounts and lost two (PoolPro, 2021).
Notice
How much notice to give
Give 30 days. CPO trainer Rudy Stankowitz says many companies give 30 to 45 days; pros on r/PoolPros mostly say 30. For a big jump, owners PoolPro interviewed gave two to three months' warning.
Sending it
Letter, email or text?
- Email or letter. Email is most common (Service Industry News); mail a letter to anyone who prefers paper. Send one email each, or one BCC email per price, with the customer's name left blank.
- A text points to it. A text can't hold the details or serve as a record, so send the email or letter first.
- Call the big ones first: your largest and longest-standing accounts.
- Don't let the bill break the news. SCORE warns against slipping an increase into a bill.
Pushback
Handling pushback and cancellations
Owners on r/PoolPros reported losing none of about 110 after 13%, 1 of 75 after $200 to $225, and about 8 of 150 after 12.5% (self-reports, not a survey).
- Raise the lowest-priced accounts first, "in batches of 10-15 accounts at a time," as one pro put it on r/PoolPros (2025).
- Listen (U.S. Chamber of Commerce), thank them, say what the new price covers, and hold it without haggling (SCORE): "I understand. This is what it takes to do the job right, and I'd like to keep taking care of your pool."
